H-E-B’s e-commerce fulfillment center coming to Plano will help the retailer more efficiently fill curbside and home delivery orders while creating jobs in the community, company officials say.

What you need to know

H-E-B’s first North Texas e-commerce fulfillment center is set to be operational this summer. The 55,000-square-foot facility is located at 6001 Preston Road, Ste. 120, attached to the grocer’s Plano location.

The center will utilize robotics to more efficiently fill curbside and home delivery orders at H-E-B’s existing Plano and Frisco stores, along with the planned stores in McKinney, Allen and Frisco.

Orders placed for the locations other than the Plano store will be filled in the facility and loaded onto temperature-controlled trucks.

The opening of the center is also set to create around 125 jobs, said Joe Fairchild, H-E-B digital fulfillment official.

Fairchild added that the center’s automation—which includes a large grid of robots to fill online orders—is all designed with the purpose of working alongside employees.

Quote of note

Having a separate facility for online orders will help with efficiency and accuracy of filling those orders, said Kedar Patel, H-E-B vice president of e-commerce.

“The purpose of the e-commerce fulfillment center is to allow H-E-B to do more curbside and home delivery orders, do it with less substitutions, and probably most importantly, less carts down the aisles,” he said. “This is a way of allowing us to continue increasing capacity while making sure the in-store experience is great.”
