The children’s fitness center, which will be located at 6505 West Park Boulevard, Ste. 208, gives parents and kids the opportunity to bond in a physically-engaging environment, celebrate birthday parties and take part in exercise classes.
“The biggest aspect of MyGym is that it builds character and confidence,” Smith said. “On the younger ages the parents are involved so it’s a great opportunity to teach parents how to interact with their kids.”
MyGym has over 700 locations worldwide, according to its website. The original MyGym was founded by Yacov and Sisi Sherman and Bill Caplin in 1983, who collaborated to create a children’s fitness curriculum. Today, MyGym allows individuals to sign up as a franchisee, enabling them to open up their own MyGym.
“My wife and I were looking for a business that mirrored and matched our values,” Smith said. “We had run the youth and children’s [program] at our church and I had been a volunteer soccer coach and a volunteer basketball coach for kids, so we just really had a passion for helping kids out, and we thought MyGym was a great vehicle to do that.”
There is currently one MyGym in Frisco and another planned to open in Allen in the summer, Smith said.
