An Allen manufacturer of police body cameras and in-car recording systems is expanding and plans to construct a 200,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in the city, the Allen Economic Development Corp. announced Friday. The new WatchGuard Video headquarters will require an estimated $46 million corporate investment and support roughly 700 employees when it is fully built in 2022 at the intersection of Exchange and Andrews parkways, according to an AEDC statement. “WatchGuard is experiencing hyper-growth thanks to increasing demand for our equipment such as body cameras and in-car recording systems for law enforcement,” WatchGuard President Stephen Coffman said in the statement. “The city of Allen was a natural choice for the new facility given its upscale amenities and the proactive efforts of the Allen Economic Development Corporation.” The first phase of construction would open 140,000 square feet of space in late 2017 with the capacity to support 500 employees. The company expects to move 280-300 employees to Allen around that time. The second phase of construction, scheduled for completion in 2022, would expand the facility by 60,000 feet and bring the capacity to 700. “Phase one will get us into the near future, but phase two isn’t far behind,” Coffman said in the statement. “We’re planning a high-end building that serves as a great draw for customers and others in the industry, but really focuses on serving our employees.”
