Collin College Center of Scholarly and Civic Engagement will host its annual “The Face of Homelessness” forum rom 7-9 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Spring Creek Campus Living Legends Conference Center, 2800 Spring Creek Parkway, in Plano.

The event began in 2010 as a way to bring attention to the existence of homelessness in Collin County, said Terry Hockenbrough, director of the Center of Scholarly and Civic Engagement.

“In our community for sometime we did not have the information about the homeless in our county, so we wanted to create a forum where people can learn more about the issue in our county,” Hockenbrough said.

Hockenbrough is also part of the Collin County Homeless Coalition. In April, the coalition released its 2015 homeless census report for Collin County. According to the report, 367 were surveyed and more than 40 percent of those homeless adults were employed full-time.

“So every year we get together some major players from city departments, family planning services and more to speak from an education standpoint,” Hockenbrough said. “What talk about what causes homelessness and what the face of homelessness looks like in Collin County.”

The event will feature presentations by city representatives, school districts, social services agencies and the Collin County Homeless Coalition regarding ways to address homelessness in Collin County. After the presentations a question-and-answer session will follow.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information call 971-881-5927 or email the Center of Scholarly and Civic Engagement at cse@[email protected].
