In the Republican primary race for United States Representative District 26, Michael Burgess took the nomination by a wide margin with a total of 33,175 votes in both Denton and Tarrant County, followed by Joel A. Krause with 6,406 total votes and Divenchy Watrous with 696 total votes.
With this nomination, Burgess will seek his sixth term in Congress. He thanked the voters for having the confidence to nominate him and in looking ahead, said he is focused on the healthcare bill.
"My legacy, if you want to call it that, will be in whatever we manage to get done in healthcare in the coming months and term next year," Burgess said.
In Denton County, with all 129 precincts reporting, Burgess led the group by a wide margin early on and it didn't ease up. He finished with 82.62 percent of the vote, trailed by Krause with 15.69 percent and Watrous with 1.69 percent, according to unofficial voting results from the Denton County Elections Office.
In Tarrant County, with all 39 precincts reporting, Burgess led with a similar margin, taking 82.53 percent of the vote, followed by Krause's 15.71 percent and Watrous' 1.75 percent, according to unofficial voting results from the Tarrant County Elections Office.

In the Republican primary race for U.S. Representative District 26, Michael Burgess leads with 83.24 percent of the vote, trailed by Joel A. Krause with 15.2 percent of the vote and Divenchy Watrous with 1.56 percent of the vote, based on unofficial early voting totals from the Denton County Elections Office. Burgess is also leading in Tarrant County with 84.5 percent of the vote, followed by Krause's 14.15 percent and Watrous' 1.34 percent, according to unofficial early voting totals from the Tarrant County Elections Office.
Candidates Watrous and Krause are vying to replace Michael Burgess, who was first elected to Congress in 2002.
A total of 19,229 voters cast ballots during early voting in Denton County. Burgess received 16,006 votes, Krause received 2,923 votes and Watrous received 300 votes. In Tarrant County, Burgess received 3,905 votes, Krause received 654 votes and Watrous received 62 votes.
