The Grapevine City Council will consider buying three lounge cars for its vintage railroad Tuesday night.

The three cars would be purchased from Ben Garrett Jr. in East Texas for $60,000, with another $30,000 for relocation. Garrett also plans to throw in a 1900s mail car as a bonus.

The articulated cars, used in the 1940s, '50s and '60s between San Francisco and Los Angeles, have been in storage in East Texas for the past 40 years.

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad could use the additional rolling stock to host more group meetings, receptions and chartered events.

The train runs regularly from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards and hosts events, including the Polar Express over the holidays and wine train excursions.

The City Council meeting agenda calls for appropriating the money from the Convention and Visitors Bureau Unappropriated Fund Balance.
