Fracking will begin next month on natural gas wells at 7504 Pleasant Run Road in Colleyville, the City Council was told Tuesday night.
Officials with Atlas Resource Partners LP, formerly Titan Operating LLC, said 20 trucks will be brought in and the work will be done from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. — the same number of trucks and the same schedule as before.
Council members were assured by Atlas officials that the fracking operation will not interfere with ongoing construction of a roundabout in the area, and that noise abatement measures will be used.
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing uses sand, water and chemical additives to fracture shale formations and recover natural gas.
Fort Worth-based natural gas company Titan Operating drilled seven wells off Pleasant Run Road in 2011. Drilling began on the first well in March of that year.
Atlas officials were before the council because it and Titan merged in July 2012, and city approval is required for a change of ownership and name on a special use permit. The council unanimously approved the change.
The drilling and a proposed route for a natural gas pipeline were approved in 2010 under the permit, but a final pipeline route was not approved.
Mark Shumacher, executive vice president at Atlas, told the council the company is in discussions with Texas Midstream Gas Services, formerly a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy, about the pipeline route.
He said Atlas likely will come to the council with drawings in April or May for a route that goes south along Davis Boulevard.
