Grapevine voters gave the go-ahead for two propositions issuing bonds for a new public safety building and an expanded community activities center, unofficial election results indicated late Tuesday.
"They were both items that staff and council had researched well," said Mayor Pro Tem Shane Wilbanks. "I felt like they were needed and the public obviously felt the same as well."
The first, for issuing $38.6 million in general obligation bonds for a new public safety building, was approved by 77 percent of voters after all precincts had reported. The second, for $30.1 million in general obligation bonds for the community activities center, also was passing with about 76 percent of voters in favor.
The projects will go up within two years and will not increase the current tax rate.
The public safety building will house the city's fire administration, police department, municipal court, detention facility, emergency operations center and information technology. The council has two potential sites for that building.
The new community activities center will double the size of the existing center at 1175 Municipal Way. The addition will include a wing to accommodate the city's Senior Activities Center; an aquatics center; expansion of the fitness area; and more multipurpose classrooms. The existing part of the activities center also would be renovated.
All results are unofficial until canvassed.
