Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake and Westlake have suspended their twice-per-week watering restriction following the Tarrant Regional Water District's announcement to lift Stage 1 watering restrictions.

The TRWD's water reservoirs have reached more than 95 percent capacity as a result of heavy rains this spring. Last August, its four water reservoirs dropped below 75 percent capacity, which triggered the Stage 1 restriction.

"At this point, it doesn't look like we will reach Stage 1 drought restrictions again this year," spokesman Chad Lorance said. "However, it is all subject to change based on this summer's weather pattern."

While Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake and Westlake have lifted their twice-a-week watering schedules, restrictions on system-based lawn watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. with few exceptions will continue year-round.

"We certainly want to encourage residents to continue to conserve water," Lorance said. "We think it is still a good plan to water twice a week — thorough saturating of the lawns is a great way to encourage healthy roots."

While water restrictions have been suspended for now, Southlake Public Works Director Bob Price encourages residents and businesses to conserve water.

"Remember, it is only the beginning of May, and we have already seen temperatures in the 90s," Price said in a statement. "We could go back into twice-a-week watering requirements if the lake levels drop to 75 percent or if the water situation in Southlake demands it."

Westlake Public Works Director Jarrod Greenwood asked residents to be mindful of their water usage with summer approaching.

"We are asking residents to communicate with your landscapers to make sure that the irrigation controls are set up to irrigate during the appropriate times and also monitor the usage to help conserve water," he said.
