Here are several street projects that have started or are slated to start in McKinney.

Virginia Street and Throckmorton Street construction

The Virginia and Throckmorton infrastructure improvements project is currently under design and is expected to begin construction in fall. Virginia Street and Throckmorton Street will be reconstructed surrounding the future city hall site. Improvements will include underground utilities, street reconstruction, roadway illumination, hardscape and landscape. A single lane roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Virginia and Throckmorton. Construction timing will be dependent on the status of construction on the East Louisiana Street project, according to city officials.

Wilmeth Road construction

Wilmeth Road is being constructed as a four-lane divided roadway between Lake Forest Drive and Hardin Boulevard. The project includes three multilane roundabouts at the intersections of Wilmeth Road with Lake Forest Drive, Taylor Burk Drive and Hardin Boulevard. The Wilmeth roundabouts at Lake Forest and Hardin are under construction and expected to be completed and open to traffic by fall 2023. There will be multiple traffic shifts associated with the construction of the roundabouts. The project is expected to be complete in early 2024, according to city officials.

US 380 and Community Avenue intersection improvements

The intersection of US 380 and Community Avenue will be widened to include dual left turn lanes for eastbound and westbound traffic, a new westbound right turn lane, a new southbound right turn lane, and associated traffic signal improvements. Design is underway on the project, and construction is expected to begin in late summer.

Lela, Jones, Foote, Bradley streets infrastructure improvements


This project includes the renewal of substandard infrastructure including streets, drainage and utilities for the following segments: Lela Street from Waddill Street to College Street, Jones Street from College Street to Board Street, Foote Street from College Street to Board Street, Bradley Street from Bonner Street to Hall Street, and Florence Street from Tucker Street to Hall Street. Construction is expected to begin in fall and last approximately one year.
