McKinney City Council unanimously voted to lower part of Coit Road’s speed limit from 50 mph to 45 mph on its northbound side during a July 5 meeting.

The affected section extends from 525 feet south of Rambling Road to US 380, according to the City Council agenda. The new speed limit will take effect after all necessary signage and markings have been installed.

McKinney council members also passed an ordinance modifying the active times of school zones on Coit in response to Rock Hill High School’s adjusted schedules for the 2022-23 school year. Active school zones will now run from 7:50-8:50 a.m. and from 4:05-4:50 p.m. on school days with 20 mph enforced as the maximum speed.

Frisco and McKinney share city limits along the centerline of Coit with Frisco managing its southbound lanes and McKinney managing its northbound lanes. Frisco City Council voted to reduce Coit Road’s speed limit from 50 mph to 45 mph during a July 6 meeting.
