Construction along Louisiana Street is expected to begin in summer 2020.

The city of McKinney is preparing for infrastructure improvements in downtown and is looking for public input.

A meeting to discuss improvements along Louisiana, Tennessee and Johnson streets will take place Aug. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee St., McKinney.

Construction work on Louisiana Street will span from Church to Kentucky streets and Tennessee Street to SH 5. Planned work will include various infrastructure improvements, including street paving, lighting, utilities, pedestrian walkability, landscaping and hardscaping. Concept plans for this project will be presented Aug. 13.

Construction on Louisiana Street is expected to begin in summer 2020, said Nick Ataie, capital improvements manager for the city's development services.

The goal is to improve and promote walkability in the downtown area and replace aging infrastructure, Ataie said.

During the meeting, the city will also gather feedback on future projects along Tennessee Street from Davis to Virginia streets and along Johnson Street from Davis to Virginia streets. Ataie said this project is not currently funded.

Representatives with McKinney Main Street, the city's engineering department and design consultants will present project information and answer questions about the two projects during the meeting. After the meeting, exhibits for the projects will be available on the city's website.

The following map shows where construction will take place. Roads in red will begin in summer 2020. Roads in blue are unfunded projects.

Questions about the projects can be directed to Blake Sills with the city of McKinney. Sills can be reached at bsills@mckinneytexas.org or 972-547-3489.
