Chestnut Square Historic Village, located near downtown McKinney, is dotted with historic homes, buildings and a chapel. And while residents regularly tour the grounds, those tours were traditionally guided and dependent upon staff and docent availability. Not anymore.

Munzee, a mobile scavenger hunt creator located in downtown McKinney, has partnered with the Heritage Guild of Collin County to provide visitors of Chestnut Square Historic Village with a unique tour experience.

Now, visitors can come any time and use the free Munzee application to take a private tour of the grounds. Information is posted on every building and the app allows users to hear the history of the city and buildings at Chestnut Square Historic Village.

“Munzee gives Chestnut Square the ability to offer you an audio tour and historical scavenger hunt in one,” Curator Leisha Phipps said in a news release.

The app allows visitors to begin and end the tour at any building.

“We are so grateful to the staff at Munzee for helping us deliver the gift of history in a 21st century method,” said Jaymie Pedigo, executive director of the Heritage Guild of Collin County in a news release. “It is so rewarding to see a huge project like this come to fruition. As a charitable organization with a limited budget, we could never have taken on a project like this without this partnership. It is our goal to expose more people to the treasure that is Chestnut Square, and while the experience is entirely free, we are always appreciative of donations. We can’t wait to see what else this team can put together.”
