A new housing project for single mothers in Collin County is underway in McKinney, according to a Nov. 20 news release.

In a nutshell

Officials from Shiloh Place and Moss Construction broke ground on a 16,641-square-foot campus that will be able to house up to 16 families, according to the news release. The facility will feature two buildings that each include eight two-bedroom apartments. Each apartment will have a bathroom and a full-sized kitchen.

The buildings will be built around an outdoor area with green space and playgrounds for children.

O’Brien Architects designed the buildings and Kimley-Horn offered civil planning and landscaping services for the project. Jordan and Skala Engineers, and Strand provided engineering services.


About the program

Shiloh Place is a nonprofit organization that supports single mothers in Collin County. The organization aims to help single mothers gain financial independence and personal wholeness by addressing physical, education, emotional and spiritual needs, according to its website.

Officials announced the new campus in 2023 after raising $5.2 million through donations. The campus will be constructed on four acres Shiloh Place purchased from the city in 2021.

In a statement, Shiloh Place CEO Eppy Thern thanked Moss Construction for partnering with them on the project.


“We are thrilled about the expansion of Shiloh Place, which will enable us to support more families in Collin County,” Thern said. “This new project is a testament to our dedication to creating lasting change by providing a hand up to single mothers who are striving to end the cycle of poverty.
