The city will participate in the Low-Income Transit Subsidy Pilot Program, a subsidized taxi voucher program for low-income families and individuals.

The program will allow participants to use taxi services to go anywhere in Collin County.

The pilot program is expected to run from April 2 to March 31, 2019, depending on funding, and it will allow up to 100 residents to participate. The program will accept residents on a first-come, first-served basis, said Anthony Cao, transit administrator for the city of McKinney Housing and Community Development.

To qualify, residents must live in McKinney, Lowry Crossing, Princeton, Melissa or Celina and have a household income that is at or below $24,600 before taxes for a family of four, Cao said.

Residents accepted into the program will receive a reloadable debit card on which they can load a maximum of $100 per month. The city will triple the amount residents put on each card, Cao said, for a maximum of $400 per month.

The program will be similar to the Collin County transit program offered for those who are 65 years old and older or disabled, Cao said.

Applications for the program are available on the Denton County Transportation Authority's website. On-site registration and outreach events will begin the week of March 19.
