The Volunteer McKinney board of directors has announced Christine Ortega as the new executive director of the nonprofit organization.

Per a Volunteer McKinney news release, Ortega brings 17 years of nonprofit experience to the position as the organization strives to engage volunteers and meet the needs of the organizations and agencies it supports.

“We are very excited to have Christine lead us in meeting the needs of area nonprofits and with volunteers who want to plug in with deeper involvement in the community,” board of directors President Beth Hensley said. “She is a positive and energetic leader and has a passion for leveraging others to reach community goals.”

Ortega’s experience includes leading outreach opportunities across faith groups and multiple nonprofit organizations, the release stated. Before coming into this position, she previously served as the emeritus director for the Collin County Homeless Coalition.

“I appreciate the board’s confidence in me, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to lead such a great organization. Volunteer McKinney is strong today because of the tireless work of the board and community over the past two decades,” Ortega said. “I am a strong believer that volunteers are the backbone, heart and soul of the McKinney community and that together we will accomplish much.”

Ortega’s new responsibilities will include working closely with the board of directors, the community, corporations and nonprofit organizations to serve the McKinney community.

An opportunity to meet Ortega will be held at the Executive Directors & Leaders Breakfast from 8-9:30 a.m. May 27 in the Gallery room at the McKinney Performing Arts Center.
