The owners of a new restaurant in downtown McKinney have confirmed they are walking away from the project. Black & Horn announced plans to open at 216 E. Virginia St. in downtown McKinney last summer. However, the restaurant will not be opening in that location after all and relinquished the space, owner Chris Ford confirmed.

“COVID-19 definitely played a huge part in changing plans,” Ford said.

The Fords were unable to secure the funding needed to proceed with opening the restaurant, and since their restaurant space was not opened before March 2019, they did not qualify for any grant programs, either, Ford said.

“We’ve hit our financial limit,” he said.

The restaurant was going to offer an upstairs lounge and live music, and provide a mix of Southern and Asian dishes, such as Cajun gumbo and Vietnamese pho, crawfish mac and cheese, and American fare staples. www.facebook.com/blackandhorn
