The apartment complex had a working name of McKinney Flats for a time before the official name was decided. The Independence is located at 2150 Collin McKinney Parkway, McKinney, and is expected to open its first building in February, with more buildings to open in the weeks following that, said Nick Walsh, a developer with the NRP Group, who is developing the project.
The Independence will have units ranging from one to four bedrooms and will offer amenities such as a swimming pool with a sundeck, an outdoor playground, picnic areas, a fitness center, controlled gated entrances, walk-in closets, washer and dryer connections, and more.
The development will offer apartments to qualifying residents at a rent below the market rate. Qualifying residents are workers earning 50%-70% of the McKinney area median income, which is about $89,000 for a family of four, Walsh said.
