The 311-bed hospital, which saw a new CEO named in mid-2024, has over $190 million in projects planned and underway at its McKinney campus, hospital officials confirmed.

Planned projects

1. Tower, Ancillary and Surgical Services expansion
  • Project: The addition of two stories to the hospital’s east tower and expansions to other areas, increasing the hospital’s bed count by an additional 46 beds and adding more operating rooms.
  • Update: Construction on the project is expected to begin in August, with the added beds and operating rooms slated to be operational by the end of 2026.
  • Timeline: August 2025-Late 2027
  • Cost: $117 million
2. Women’s Services renovation and expansion
  • Project: Construction of two stories above the existing Medical City Women’s Hospital McKinney, adding two C-section suites and six labor and delivery suites, and refreshing existing suites in the Women’s Hospital.
  • Update: Construction is expected to begin in early 2026.
  • Timeline: February 2026-February 2027
  • Cost: $25 million

3. New Medical Office building
  • Project: A new 125,000-square-foot medical office building that will include spaces for additional physician practices, hospital space and Solis Mammography
  • Update: Construction on the project is nearing completion and the facility is set to open in early July.
  • Timeline: Early 2024-Summer 2025
  • Cost: $50 million
The context


Medical City McKinney is seeing various facility investments as part of a $1.5 billion capital investment initiative by Medical City Healthcare to implement capital improvements across the healthcare system over a five-year period, a news release from hospital officials states.

Other recent projects at the McKinney hospital include a $17 million women’s hospital that opened in November 2023, featuring a 21-bed neonatal intensive unit, 25 postpartum beds and a full-service newborn nursery. The hospital also saw the addition of a $64 million patient tower and ER expansion, which opened in late 2021.
