The city of McKinney is extending its agreement with the Salesmanship Club of Dallas to continue hosting the CJ Cup Byron Nelson golf tournament through 2030.

The gist

McKinney City Council members approved a resolution authorizing the extension during an Oct. 6 meeting. The action comes after stakeholders announced the extension in June.

The Byron Nelson tournament has been played at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney each year since 2021. The tournament held in May 2025 was its second year with CJ Group as its title sponsor.

The tournament is officially hosted by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and exists to raise money for the Momentous Institute, a mental health organization that offers support for children and families. Since 1968, the tournament has raised more than $190 million for the institute.

The details

Under the extension agreement, McKinney will continue providing police and fire services for the tournament, according to a city document. The city is also expected to contribute $500,000 in infrastructure improvements for every $10 million spent by Invited Clubs on golf course improvements.

If the three-year extension is exercised, the city will contribute $500,000 more. The agreement also includes sponsorship terms for the city and the McKinney Community Development Corporation.

TPC Craig Ranch is currently undergoing a $22 million reinvestment project with renovations being led by World Golf Hall of Famer Lanny Wadkins. The renovations are the golf course’s first since it opened in 2004 and aims to overhaul the existing course with turf enhancements, bunker repositioning and more.

The golf course is expected to reopen in November, according to TPC Craig Ranch’s website. The clubhouse and practice facility are still open during the project. For more information, visit www.invitedclubs.com/clubs/tpc-craig-ranch/renovations.
