What’s happening?
McKinney City Council members authorized up to $51,895 for a contract with Root Policy Research to prepare a 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan that will examine affordable housing needs in the city. Council members approved the resolution as part of the June 17 meeting’s consent agenda.
The planning process serves as a framework for identifying housing and community development priorities, according to a city document. The plan is also required to be eligible for grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under programs like the Community Development Block Grant.
City staff anticipate the planning process will occur throughout the summer. A final draft is expected to be presented to city council for a public hearing on August 5, according to the city's website. The plan will be submitted to the department of housing and urban development by Aug. 16 for review.
