McKinney City Council will vote on two zoning requests at an upcoming May 20 meeting, including a request to rezone 200 acres for a proposed Encore Wire expansion.

Council members will consider the request after McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval earlier this month. If approved by council, nearly 200 acres will be rezoned for a new industrial building that will be located next to McKinney National Airport.

In case you missed it

An official with Prysmian, which acquired Encore Wire in 2024, confirmed a large expansion was being planned in McKinney. Anna Wright, vice president of marketing and external communications for Prysmian, said in an email that groundbreaking on the project is expected to occur later this year with completion in 2026.

The building proposed for the property is expected to stand at 55 feet tall with two industrial manufacturing towers that reach 105 feet at maximum height. Plans include “significant setbacks” from Airport Drive, Industrial Boulevard and all property lines.
  • 50-foot setback along Airport Drive and Industrial Boulevard
  • 300-foot setback from all property lines for the industrial towers
  • 50-foot setback from adjacent public streets or front property line for loading bays

Also on the agenda

The regular agenda also includes a zoning request for a new cell tower near the corner of US 380 and Lake Forest Drive. The same request was tabled in April after council members inquired about building the cell tower at a different location.

Additionally, council members Justin Beller and Geré Feltus will be certified for another four-year term on the council after winning election in May. Beller ran unopposed in the race for District 1 and received 1,708 votes. Feltus received 3,861 votes in the race for District 3, representing more than 53% of the vote.

The work session agenda holds four discussion items, including:
  • Discussion of concrete panel replacement projects on Eldorado and Virginia Parkway
  • Discussion of current projects and funding in the city’s Parks and Recreation department
