The McKinney City Council meeting originally scheduled for 6 p.m. March 4 will now be held at 6 p.m. March 5.
The meeting was rescheduled due to a power outage at McKinney City Hall, said Denise Lessard, McKinney's senior media and public relations manager, in an email. The meeting will still take place at McKinney's new city hall, located at 401 E. Virginia St.

McKinney City Council will vote March 4 to reserve land in southwest McKinney for a stealth communications tower to improve the area’s cell reception, according to city documents.
The regular council meeting will be the first in the new city hall on East Virginia Street.
The gist
The vote follows a February meeting where city staff delivered a presentation highlighting poor cell service for the area’s 38,000 residents across the 4,000 acre area. The tower that council will vote on would be at the intersection of Stars Avenue and Wellness Way, according to city documents. Two new towers are also currently under construction in the area, one at TPC Craig Ranch and one at the Stacy Road Elevated Water Storage Tank.
Council will also vote to allow telecommunications company Anthemnet to lease the land for the tower’s development.
What else?
Council will also consider an impact fee waiver request for the redevelopment of east side living community Remnant at Greenwood I and II.
McKinney can charge an “impact fee” on new construction to offset the city’s cost to expand infrastructure and services to accommodate the new construction, according to the city's website. Under McKinney’s Neighborhood Empowerment Zone incentive, builders can apply to waive the impact fee for certain kinds of construction, including housing. The city has approved roughly $2.6 million in fee waivers since 2009. The Remnant at Greenwood project will redevelop public housing units and is part of a larger city initiative to create more affordable housing.
Also on the agenda
Council’s regular meeting agenda also includes:
- Discussion and action on a resolution expanding the Community Support Grant Program
- Discussion and action on a rezoning request a roughly 100-acre lot near County Road 317 from agricultural to light industrial use
- A hearing on rezoning a 127-acre lot on Custer Road and FM 1461 to allow for residential and commercial use
