The city of McKinney’s population grew and became more diverse over the last five years, according to newly released US Census data.

The U.S. Census Bureau released new five-year data for 2023 on Dec. 12 as part of its American Community Survey, or ACS. The new data represents a five-year estimate of the population across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to the Census website.

In the new 2023 data, McKinney grew from around 192,000 people to nearly 214,000, which represents a nearly 11.4% increase, according to the ACS survey results. Over the same time frame, Collin County’s population grew by 18.9%.

Demographically, people who identified themselves as only white made up 55.2% of McKinney’s population in 2023, which is a decrease compared to the 75.9% who identified as only white in 2018.


One of the largest demographic shifts came from people who identified as two or more races, which made up around 7,000 people, or 3.7%, in 2018. The 2023 results show that people who identify as two or more races made up nearly 27,000, or 12.6%, of the population in 2023.
