The gist
City Council members heard the proposed budget and tax rate for FY 2024-25 at an Aug. 9 budget work session.
Information presented by city staff members outlined a proposed $888 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year, with a general fund budget of $219.4 million.
The presentation also included a roughly $0.01 decrease in the property tax rate, resulting in a possible tax rate of $0.415513 per $100 valuation. The Sept. 3 meeting will include a public hearing for both the budget and the tax rate prior to any action being taken on the adoption of either item.
Other items on the meeting agenda include:
- Consideration of an ordinance to change rates and fees for some city services
- Consideration of a rezoning request to allow for a the development of a hotel on North Hardin Boulevard, just south of University Drive
City Council members will also hear a presentation on downtown McKinney fire suppression systems and fire protection efforts, at a work session meeting at 3 p.m. Sept. 3 prior to the regular meeting.
The presentation includes information on existing fire suppression systems in the district as well as the existing water lines and fire hydrants in the area. The city has existing assistance programs to aid property owners in installing fire suppression systems, according to the presentation, but council members will consider options to improve existing programs or explore new programs related to fire suppression in downtown.
The meeting agenda also includes:
- A presentation of solid waste rates and operations
- A presentation on the city’s proposed legislative priorities for the 89th session of the Texas State Legislature
