A fire on Jan. 20 at McKinney’s Towne Lake Park could affect upcoming youth baseball and softball seasons, officials said.

The details

A fire that engulfed a concession stand at Grady Littlejohn Softball and Baseball Complex at Towne Lake Park was reported at 9:39 p.m. on Jan. 20, according to a representative of the McKinney Fire Department.

The cause of the fire has not been determined but is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office. The Grady Littlejohn Softball and Baseball Complex will be closed until further notice to allow for the investigation, according to a post on the McKinney Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page.

The fire destroyed an electrical panel housed inside the concessions building that controlled the lights for the baseball and softball fields, Interim Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Mullins said in a statement. Parks and recreation department staff are working with an electrical contractor to determine when the field lights will become operational, he said.

The department is also working on a plan to adjust upcoming youth baseball and softball games as needed, including moving games to other sports complexes, starting games earlier in the day or extending the sports’ season. Some games may still be possible to be played during the day at Grady Littlejohn Softball and Baseball Complex, Mullins said.

“We appreciate the support of the McKinney community and look forward to rebuilding the Grady Littlejohn Softball and Baseball Complex,” Mullins said in a statement.
