For trees to be recycled, city officials ask that residents remove all lights, ornaments and decorations from the tree. Trees should not be bagged, and any trees with ornaments or lights will not be collected and must be scheduled for a bulky item pickup, according to the city’s website.

Natural decorations, such as natural poinsettias, pine garland and wreaths, can also be placed in brown paper bags next to trash bins on regularly scheduled trash days for collection. These items should be removed from any pots or containers, and have any lights or ornaments removed.

The plant materials will be taken to a regional composting facility in Plano to be “converted into a variety of compost products,” according to the city’s website.
