The details
The facility, located at McKinney National Airport, is a “state-of-the-art” terminal offering passenger amenities and a number of services, according to the release. The terminal features:
- A conference room
- A passenger waiting area
- A pilot lounge
“This new FBO terminal will help us compete with other world-class facilities that are vying for the lucrative dollars generated by the many corporate fleets pouring into Collin County and the larger Dallas area,” McKinney Mayor George Fuller said in the release. “Facilities like this will continue to increase the airport’s value as an economic driver in our region.”
How we got here
The construction of the new FBO began in 2018 and saw significant delays. Two construction companies that worked on the project filed for bankruptcy, leaving an incomplete facility.
The opening of the terminal contributes to a larger effort by city leaders to expand McKinney National Airport, which has also seen recent projects to add hangars and other facilities. McKinney City Council members also reaffirmed their intent to maximize the development potential of the airport as one of their defined goals in a strategic work session earlier this year.
“The city of McKinney is committed to making McKinney National Airport a premier destination for corporate and general aviation. With the opening of the new FBO terminal, the city is well on its way to achieving that goal.” Airport Director Ken Carley said in the release.
