The Red Door Pantry will continue serving McKinney residents under new management after the nonprofit's founder announced Dec. 28 the pantry will close. New project managers Sue McNaughton and Kaye Woolery will continue operating four of the six pantry locations. The pantries will be located in McKinney at 110 E. Davis St., 502 N. Kentucky St., 513 Heard St. and at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 400 N. College St. Founder Teri Youngdale began The Red Door Pantry, which provides food to anyone who is hungry, in September 2016 with one pantry. The nonprofit now has 60 volunteers, Youngdale said. Youngdale said she received nothing but love and support when she announced her decision to step down. McNaughton said she had volunteered with the pantry in the past, and Woolery helped get a food pantry started at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. "I've been involved with other food [pantries and projects] in town and also when I lived in California," McNaughton said. "I just felt called to help with this." McNaughton, Woolery, Carolyn Selby, Nancy McClendan, and Hellene and Emilio Barillas will help organize and run The Red Door Pantry. The nonprofit is looking for sponsors, volunteers and supplemental nonperishable foods, McNaughton said. Donations for the pantries can be made at the pantry locations or at Cookies and Bloom, 2001 Central Circle, Ste. 107, McKinney, during business hours. Each pantry is restocked with bread about twice a day, Youngdale said. While the name The Red Door Pantry will remain the same, the new managers said they will work on branding for each pantry, instructions on how to donate and would like to provide a list of agency contacts at each location for individuals in need. More about The Red Door Pantry can be found on the nonprofit's Facebook page.
