On Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at the  TUPPS Brewery at the Cotton Mill, 721 Anderson St., teams will unite for the first-ever Hot Tech Chili Cook-Off benefitting The WERX Foundation and The Love Life Foundation.

The family friendly event will include TUPPS’ beer, The Maylee Thomas Band, bounce houses and an innovation station for kids. Doors open at 6 p.m. and chili tasting begins at 6:30 p.m. Adults receive a 12-ounce pilsner glass, a TUPPS beer and unlimited chili for a $20 entrance fee, children receive a water or soft drink and unlimited chili for a $5 entrance fee.

“We recently received our 501(c)(3) designation and wanted to celebrate with a family friendly fundraising event with lots of music, technology and collaborative fun,” said Christine Smith, executive director of The WERX, in a news release. “We’re excited to have so many teams signed up already and if their names are any indication, the chili should be exciting to taste.”

Only 15 teams will be able to complete and limited spots are available. Applications can be found at www.mckinneywerx.com or by emailing [email protected] or calling 214-856-4113. Prizes will be awarded for the people’s choice chili—voted on by the public, and best all around chili—judged by local dignitaries.

Team will receive 10 pounds of chili meat to use in their chili and will be expected to deliver 10 quarts of chili for judging and tasting. The entry fee for the contest is $50 and teams will receive three T-shirts, three beer glasses, three free TUPPS beers, chili tasting and the opportunity to win a unique trophy and prizes from KitchenWares on the Square.

The chili cook-off benefits The WERX Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to build, grow and support small business in McKinney by providing start-ups with a dedicated collaborative work space, resources and educational programs, as well as fostering entrepreneurism in the community.

In keeping with that family-friendly focus, The WERX chose The Love Life Foundation to partner with on the event. The mission of The Love Life Foundation is to expose the plight of at-risk children in our community and break the cycle of child abuse.
