McKinney’s annual Shop, Walk, & Wine event is taking on a new life this year to encourage social distancing and supporting local businesses.

Instead of requiring customers to shop in person, most participating businesses are offering shoppers virtual deals, according to a release from the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. Another change is that instead of being good for just one night, many of the coupons last through December and some into January.

“This event has become a must in McKinney over the past several years, and 2020 will be no different,” said Lisa Hermes, president and CEO of the McKinney chamber, in a news release. “This year, instead of it being for just one evening, it’ll last for several weeks throughout the crucial holiday shopping season.”

The event is open to McKinney residents and the community at large and has been duly renamed "Shop, Click, & Wine." The event, put on by the McKinney chamber’s Women’s Alliance of McKinney, will give participants access to exclusive deals at shops across the city, per the release.

The list of deals and participating vendors can be found at this link. Coupons can be used online or by showing retailers the coupon in person through phones.

“It’s a fantastic way to relax, entertain, and do some Christmas shopping—online or in person—while supporting local vendors,” Hermes said in the release. “Of course, this year we’ll have to be mindful of COVID-19, and remember to practice safe social distancing guidelines, but we hope this ultimately helps local businesses and the surrounding community get into the holiday spirit."
