Two areas of the city will be sprayed for mosquitoes beginning Oct. 1, according to a Sept. 27 news release from the city of McKinney.

The decision to treat the identified areas comes after local mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile virus, the release stated.

The details

Spraying will take place on Oct. 1-2 and will occur between 10 p.m.-5 a.m., weather permitting. Spraying will take place within a one-mile radius of the following areas on each date, including:
  • Oct. 1: 4269 Eldorado Parkway, McKinney
  • Oct. 2: 2800 Barnsley Drive, McKinney
More than 20 areas across the city have been sprayed for mosquitoes following positive identification of West Nile virus in a mosquito test pool since June, according to various news releases from the city.

The areas identified for spraying on Oct. 1-2 have both been previously treated in recent months, a city news release states.

The city has an “active program” for tracking and monitoring mosquito activity throughout the city, its website states. The program includes the use of insecticides in areas with standing water and setting traps throughout the city. To see an interactive map of mosquito trap locations and spray areas, click here.
