The city of McKinney announced Aug. 22 five areas of the city will be sprayed for mosquitoes over the course of multiple days, beginning Aug. 26.

The decision to treat the identified areas comes after local mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to a city news release.

The specifics

Spraying will take place from Aug. 26-30 and will begin at 10 p.m. each evening, weather permitting. Spraying will take place within a one-mile radius of the following areas on each date, including:
  • Aug. 26: 2001 S. Central Expressway
  • Aug. 27: 2996 Virginia Parkway
  • Aug. 28: 2321 Lacebark Lane
  • Aug. 29: 4269 Eldorado Parkway
  • Aug. 30: 10302 JFK Blvd.
More than 10 areas across the city have been sprayed for mosquitoes following positive identification of West Nile virus in a mosquito test pool since June, according to various news releases from the city.

Residents in the area can expect to see signs posted at major intersections near areas that will be treated.

City officials advise residents in the area to stay indoors and bring pets inside during the spray period, according to the release.
