Early voting results from Collin County show an early lead for Bill Cox in the runoff race to be McKinney’s next mayor.

What you need to know

In the mayoral runoff race, Cox has received 8,793 votes, which represents about 52.66% of the 16,697 votes cast in the race during early voting.

Candidate Scott Sanford follows with 7,904 votes, representing 47.34% of votes cast, according to early voting results from Collin County.

The context

The race went to a runoff after the May 3 election results determined that one candidate did not receive more than 50% of the votes cast, the threshold required to win the race, Collin County Elections Administration Kaleb Breaux said.

Votes cast during the May 3 mayoral election include:
  • Bill Cox: 8,957 votes, which represents about 46.78% of votes cast
  • Scott Sanford: 7,813 votes, which represents about 40.81% of votes cast
  • Taylor Willingham: 1,268 votes, which represents about 6.62% of votes cast
  • Matt “Doc” Rostami: 1,109 votes, which represents about 5.79% of votes cast

Totals from ballots cast June 7 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
