With all 59 vote centers in Collin County reporting, the race for the At-Large 1 seat on McKinney City Council is going to a runoff election.

The specifics

Candidate Ernest Lynch received the most votes but did not receive more than 50% of total votes cast, which is the threshold required to win the five-candidate race.

Votes cast in the race include:
  • Ernest Lynch received 5,025 votes, representing 29.34% of votes cast
  • Jim Garrison received 3,422 votes, representing 19.98% of votes cast
  • Brian J. Magnuson received 3,256 votes, representing 19.01% of votes cast
  • Derrick Tarver received 3,068 votes, representing 17.91% of votes cast
  • Taha Ansari received 2,358 votes, representing 13.77% of votes cast
In the event that one candidate does not receive more than 50% of votes cast, the two candidates that received the most votes will continue on to a runoff election for the At-Large 1 seat, Collin County Elections Administration Kaleb Breaux said. Lynch and Garrison received the most votes, and are expected to face off in the runoff election. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

The election day for runoff races is scheduled for June 7, with early voting being held May 27-31 as well as June 2-3. Voting locations, sample ballots and voting hours will be available on the Collin County Elections website.

Lynch has received 4,936 votes, representing 29.42% of votes cast, according to Collin County election results. It will require one candidate receiving more than 50% of votes cast to win the five-candidate race. Votes cast for other candidates in the race include:
  • Jim Garrison received 3,364 votes, representing 20.05% of votes cast
  • Brian J. Magnuson received 3,202 votes, representing 19.09% of votes cast
  • Derrick Tarver received 3,005 votes, representing 17.91% of votes cast
  • Taha Ansari received 2,268 votes, representing 13.52% of votes cast

Lynch has received 4,113 votes, representing 30.07% of votes cast, according to Collin County election results. It will require one candidate receiving more than 50% of votes cast to win the five-candidate race.

Early voting results from Collin County show an early lead for Ernest Lynch in a five-candidate race to serve in the At-Large 1 seat on McKinney City Council.

In the race, Lynch has received 3,709 votes which represents about 31.09% of votes, according to early voting results. Candidate Jim Garrison follows with 2,420 votes, representing 20.29% of votes cast, according to early voting results.

Other early voting results for race include:
  • Brian J. Magnuson received 2,291 votes, which represents about 19.21% of votes cast
  • Derrick Tarver received 1,975 votes, which represents about 16.56% of votes cast
  • Taha Ansari received 1,503 votes, which represents about 12.85% of votes cast
What else?

In early voting, there were 54,401 ballots cast countywide, which represents 7.35% of Collin County’s 740,482 registered voters.

Totals from ballots cast May 3 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
