McKinney’s City Council has seven members, including four members representing single-member districts as well as two members and the mayor that serve at-large.
The following four-year seats on the council are up for election May 3:
- Mayor
- District 1
- District 3
- At Large 1
Mayor Fuller is restricted by term limits allowed in the city charter and cannot run for re-election as mayor. Philips also announced at a Jan. 7 council meeting that he would not be seeking re-election.
Feltus announced her intention to pursue re-election via a Facebook post on Dec. 26. Beller also announced that he would be seeking re-election through a Jan. 8 Facebook post.
Residents interested in running for a seat on McKinney City Council can access the candidate packet on the city’s website or request a hard copy from the city secretary’s office at McKinney City Hall, located at 401 E. Virginia St. The packet includes instructions, eligibility criteria, all necessary forms and other important election information.
Candidate filings are accepted during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Feb. 14, a city news release stated. For more information on McKinney City Council elections, contact the city secretary's office at 972-547-7505 or [email protected].
What else?
McKinney ISD’s Board of Trustees include seven members that work in conjunction with the district’s Superintendent Shawn Pratt. The members serve four-year overlapping terms and are not subject to term limits, the district’s website states.
The four seats on the board up for election in May include:
- Place 1
- Place 2
- Place 3
- Place 7
Candidate applications are available on the district’s website, and the deadline to file the application is 5 p.m. Feb. 14.
Get involved
The deadline to register to vote in the May election is April 3, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
Early voting begins April 22 and continues daily until April 29. Election day is May 3.
