1. Collin College awarded $1.3M to provide skills development training for North Texas companies
Over 840 new and current employees at North Texas-area businesses will benefit from state-funded training at Collin College. Representatives of the Texas Workforce Commission awarded four Skills Development Fund grants totaling $1.35 million to the college to cover the cost of customized training for employees at 13 businesses. The Skills Development Fund program looks to support businesses through training of existing or new employees in high-demand occupations in fields such as healthcare, accounting and manufacturing.
2. Collin College announces certification for Toyota and Lexus training programs
The certified Toyota and Lexus Technician Training and Education Network, or T-TEN, program develops manufacturer-certified technicians in automotive dealerships across the United States. The college system’s training partnership with Toyota launched in fall 2023, and college officials completed the certification process this year.
3. Targeted training: Collin College, workforce leaders hone in on employee skills initiatives in McKinney
New programming at Collin College specifically targets workforce development, including specialized training and courses aimed at enhancing the skills of professionals already in the workforce. Collin College officials look to help any organization that needs it, said Neil Matkin, district president of the college system. The college has teamed up with industries that have a smaller demand to offer training, rather than creating a credit-based program that can take longer to implement, he said.
4. Collin College board maintains tax rate for FY 2025-26
The college’s board of trustees unanimously approved a tax rate of $0.08122 per $100 valuation in August. This is the fourth year in a row the college has operated at this tax rate, according to Collin County tax records. Despite the tax rate staying the same, the average homeowner can expect to see an additional $23 increase to their tax bill due to rising property values.
5. Collin College makes headway on new Frisco health science center
College leaders along with city of Frisco officials celebrated a construction milestone as the final beam was lifted and placed on top of the Health Sciences Center Dec. 3, according to a college news release. The 120,000-square-foot center will provide additional space for the college's current health science programs while creating spaces for new programs.
