McKinney ISD has 21 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools and other alternative use campuses, and serves over 24,500 students, according to its website.
Parents and students gathered at campuses including Frazier Elementary School and Cockrill Middle School, where parents took pictures and said their goodbyes as students entered for the first day of school.
Ahead of the first day of school, MISD staff gathered at events such as the New Hire Breakfast on July 30 and MISD Convocation on Aug. 8 to prepare for the school year.
"We're here together, standing on the edge of another year of promise, potential and purpose. I want to begin with just saying thank you. Thank you for continuing to show up. Thank you for continuing to fight the good fight," McKinney ISD Superintendent Shawn Pratt said to district staff at the convocation event. "You're not just educators, you're difference makers and you're heroes."
