McKinney ISD is set to launch a new app in the 2024-25 school year to streamline communication alerts across the district.

The district’s board of trustees approved an agreement with the software company Apptegy on March 25. The agreement includes, for the district, a one-time development cost of $43,600 and an annual subscription fee of $140,892, which is set for five years, per the agenda.

“We believe that Apptegy will enhance our district and the way we communicate with all stakeholders,” Assistant Superintendent of Communications Shelly Spaulding said.

The overview

Administrators, teachers, coaches and support staff will be able to use the app to communicate with students and parents. Spaulding said Apptegy's services will replace:
  • The district’s website platform
  • Remind 101
  • SchoolMessenger
The app will allow the district to create customizable content such as newsletters and announcements, Spaulding said. The district will also be able to send real-time updates for emergencies or school closures.

The app is able to be translated for 100 different languages. This increases the district’s ability to communicate with the community as there are more than 50 languages spoken by students and parents, Spaulding said.

Apptegy is also used by surrounding school districts including Allen ISD, Prosper ISD, Love Joy ISD and Melissa ISD, she said.

“The implementation of Apptegy represents a significant opportunity to enhance communication, foster community engagement and strengthen relationships with our school community,” Spaulding said. “By leveraging the power of technology, we can ensure that every member of our community feels connected, informed and supported.”
