The McKinney Police Department said there is no evidence indicating the student who committed suicide at McKinney North High School Friday planned to harm others.

"No evidence whatsoever, to include notes, written threats, or statements to witness has shown otherwise, according to what our investigation has revealed as of this afternoon," according to a statement from MPD. "The student entered the school with what has been determined to be his father's five-shot Revolver and shot himself inside an empty classroom."

McKinney North High School will have additional counselors and grief support available for students Monday, McKinney ISD Superintendent Rick McDaniel said in a statement on Facebook.

McDaniel continued to say McKinney North will have additional security on site for support and reassurance alongside the school's two School Resource Officers.

"We understand that there are a wide range of viewpoints on this issue, but I think we all agree that at the federal, state, and local levels we can all do more," McDaniel said. "The close partnership between the McKinney ISD and McKinney PD was evidenced today by an immediate and overwhelming response. In addition, McKinney North High School staff and students initiated the district lock-down protocol impeccably. We will continue to evaluate all of our safety protocols and improve where possible."

McDaniel and McKinney Mayor George Fuller held a town hall meeting in April about school safety and security measures, and at an April 24 meeting the MISD board of trustees discussed adding two SROs to patrol elementary schools to the 2018-29 budget. The board is expected to approve the budget in June.
