McKinney ISD is bringing a bond election to voters this spring. According to Superintendent Rick McDaniel, the district has a plethora of needs, including new buildings, building improvements, technology upgrades, and safety and security upgrades.
“We are not starting the process of putting together the bond committee until January,” he said. “The committee will look at our current facility study and determine what we need to ask the public for in terms of this bond election.”
McDaniel said that once the needs are identified, the district will begin sharing information with the public.
“I can’t speculate what will be on the bond—I know there has been a lot of talk about a stadium, but I can’t say that will be on the bond election,” he said. “That said, I do believe we need a stadium because our current stadium is 55 years old.”
McDaniel said that even if the stadium made it on the project list, it would only amount to roughly one-fourth of the entire amount of requests in terms of price.
“We have the bond capacity of about $200 million, and we could easily stand to use all of that,” he said. “There are a lot of different projects that need to be done.”
