The McKinney area is home to a variety of summer camps for children of all ages and interests. Parents can choose from academic, day and sports camps. Below is a non-comprehensive list of camps taking place this year in McKinney.

Academic

Collin College ACT Preparation
High schoolers will practice the ACT’s English and writing, reading, math and science sections, and learn test-taking strategies and study skills to boost their score.
Age 14 and older. Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 10-Aug. 9. $169.

Collin College Nurse Camp
Young, prospective nurses can get a firsthand look at the nursing profession at this Collin College camp. The free camp allows students to observe demonstrations and engage in simulations to get a taste of life on the job.

Collin College SAT Math Review
The McKinney campus’ SAT review helps students master the redesigned SAT math section. Over six sessions, students will learn how to solve problems featuring science, social science, career and using real-life applications.
Age 14 and older. Wednesdays from June 26-July 31. $129.

Collin College SAT Verbal Review
This review helps students conquer the language portions of the test. Throughout 10 sessions, students will learn about and develop skills to perform well in the reading, writing, language and essay sections.
Age 14 and older. Mondays and Wednesdays from July 9-25. $169.

Youth Career Exploration Camp
At the McKinney Fire Department’s Youth Career Exploration Camp, children are introduced to jobs in emergency response. The camp guides students in the classroom and in the field, showing them all sides of the fast-paced jobs. By the end attendees will have a better appreciation for the jobs that save their lives and a better understanding of what the job entails. Ages 12-15. June 18-22, July 16-20. $25 for residents, $40 for non-residents.

Creative Art Camp
Jump Into Art’s three summer camps allow students to experiment with different kinds of art. Each camp guides attendees through several hands-on art projects, including pottery, sculpting, sketching, painting, art books and fabrics.

Made of Sugar and Spice camps
Made of Sugar & Spice will offer seven camps throughout the summer. Camps range from “Princess Camp” and “Slime Time” to “Rock Star Camp” and “Unicorns & Rainbows.” Registration is open until the day camp starts.
Ages 3-10 (varies by camp). Dates vary by camp but run from June 25-Aug. 10. Prices vary by camp.

Nature Art Camp
At the Heard Natural Science Museum’s Nature Art Camps, kids will be able to merge their love of nature and creativity. Led by the museum’s curator, Lynne Hubner, the Nature Art Camp teaches campers how to create art inspired by nature and wild animals. Campers will learn about new mediums each day and create original pieces.
Ages 6-12 (as of June 1, 2018). July 16-20, July 23-27. Registration closes when a camp is full or on the Friday before the camp starts. $160 for museum members, $185 for nonmembers.

School of Rock
School of Rock is a whirlwind of music and performance workshops where kids can learn to embrace their inner rock star. Campers will work with music professionals to improve their guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboard and vocal skills learning to take the stage with confidence. Attendees will also learn about music theory and fundamentals. Registration for each week ends three days before that camp starts.
Ages 7-17. Camps run weekly from June 4- Aug.17. $495.

Young Actors Guild Broadway Bound: ‘Annie Jr.’
At Broadway Bound, campers will put together a  performance of the musical “Annie Jr.” in two weeks. The cast and crew, made up of a wide variety of ages, will learn and rehearse the show. Campers will also be taught by experienced theater directors. The kids will perform the show throughout the weekend following their last day of camp. Registration ends May 2.

Day camps

Camp Invention
At this week-long summer camp, attendees will brainstorm, create, tinker and invent. Children will use real circuits, tools and materials from the “Inventor Supply Room” to create a prototype of their invention. Inventions include a personalized motor-powered vehicle, an insect-themed pinball machine and more.
Grades kindergarten-6th. June 18-22, July 16-20. $280.

Full-Day Camps
Day camps at Old Settler’s Recreation Center include trips, challenges, team building and more. Camps offered include “Sink or Swim” at which campers will visit Hawaiian Falls, “Put on Your Game Face” where campers participate in team competitions and “Unique by Nature” where attendees will learn navigation skills and more.
Ages 7-12. Sink or Swim: June 18-22, 23-27. Put on Your Game Face: June 25-29. Unique by Nature: July 9-13. $125 resident, $130 nonresident.

Fun in the Sun Outdoor Day Camp
The YMCA’s Fun in the Sun camp puts an emphasis on the outdoors. Campers will enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including a field trip and swimming. Registration is open until the day before the camp starts.
Ages 5-12. Mon.-Fri. from June 4-Aug. 17. $146 per week for YMCA members, $169 per week for nonmembers.

Glamp Camp (half-day)
The recreation center’s half-day “Glamp Camp” adds style to the outdoors. Short for glamorous camping, “Glamp Camp” combines confidence building and survival skills with tea parties, spa days and fashion shows. The camp is available in morning and afternoon sessions. Registration is open the Monday before each camp starts.
Ages 7-12. July 16-20. $50 for residents, $55 for nonresidents.

Keeper Camps
The camps guide children through the Heard Natural Science Museum, offering a behind-the-scenes look. Campers will learn about the museum’s exhibits with hands-on activities and learn how to properly care for the on-site animals. Camp registration closes when a camp is full or on the Friday before it starts. Campers must attend Keeper Camp 1 to enroll in Keeper Camp 2.
Ages 10-15. Keeper Camp 1: June 11-15, July 23-27. Keeper Camp 2: July 30-Aug. 3. $260 for museum members, $285 for nonmembers.

Little Rascals Camp
McKinney’s Adventure Camps jam pack their weeks with nonstop field trips. The Little Rascals Camp takes 8- to 9-year-old campers to water parks, trampoline parks, LEGOLAND, Rainforest Cafe and to arcades and movies. Registration is open until camp is full.

Prairie Adventure Camp
Cell phones are put away and pioneer outfits are put on at the beginning of Historic Chestnut Square’s Prairie Adventure Camp. The camp is a journey into the past, where campers find themselves living and learning about life in the 1880s. Campers are introduced to a wide variety of activities, including old-fashioned skills, food and games that transport them back in time. Registration is open until the week before the camp begins.
Ages 7-14. Camps run Tue.-Thu. from June 12- Aug. 9. $90 for members, $100 for nonmembers.

Summer Camps at the Apex Centre
The Apex Centre summer camps offer activities for any child’s interests. Depending on the week, campers will go on field trips around the metroplex, including Six Flags, Hawaiian Falls, Dallas Zoo or to the movies. Choose your child’s favorite themed week to immerse them in activities they love.
Ages 6-12. Camps run weekly from June 11-Aug. 24. $200 for members, $280 for nonmembers.

Summer Nature Camps
Campers will be introduced to a host of topics about the environment. In its two sections, Camp Cougar and Camp Egret, kids will learn about animals on land and in water, the impact of natural disasters and the solar system. Campers will explore the museum’s 289-acre sanctuary, meet animals and play outdoor games. Registration closes when a camp is full or on the Friday before the camp starts.
Ages 5-12. Camp Cougar: June 18-22, 25-29. Camp Egret: July 9-13, 16-20. $210 for museum members, $235 for nonmembers.

Teen Camps
The Teen Adventure Camps offer a whirlwind week of field trips. Campers will go to Urban Air Trampoline Park, Six Flags, Hawaiian Falls, along with other fun stops. Registration is open until the camp is full.

Youth Camps
The Youth Camps, available in all-girls, all-boys and co-ed camps, take attendees to Main Event, Whirlyball Laser Whirld and Six Flags, among many other destinations, depending on the week. Registration is open until camp is full. Ages 10-11. Boys Will be Boys: June 25-29. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: July 9-13. Kamp Koolz: July 30-Aug. 3. $171 for residents, $182 for nonresidents.

Day Camp
Weekly activities at Texas Best Gymnastics day camp include Hawaiian Falls, Strikz Entertainment, movie outings, open gym, painting, Rough Rider games and more. Children will need to bring a snack and sack lunch everyday unless notified.
Ages first grade and up. Camps run weekly from June 11- Aug.17. $200 per week, $180 per week after three weeks of attendance, $69.99 (Hawaiian Falls season pass), $15 (T-shirt).

Fantastically Fun Summer Camp
Zenith’s Fantastically Fun Summer Camp keeps kids moving. Campers can join the “Fun & Fit” option, which focuses on many activities, like games, open gym, arts and crafts, a waterslide, as well as gymnastics; or the “Gymnastics” option, which, as the name suggests, emphasizes the sport itself, limiting camp time to tumbling and trampoline activities.
Ages 5-12. Camps run weekly from June 11- Aug.17. $125 (week of half days), $195 (week of full days), $20 registration fee for nonmembers.

Martial Arts Camp
Camps include martial arts, child safety, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, dodgeball, LEGOS, games and reading time. Dragonfly Martial Arts uses its goal setting and leadership program to teach children valuable life lessons, including focus, confidence, teamwork, respect, discipline, fitness and manners. No martial arts experience is required for this camp and attendees will receive specialized instruction in martial arts. Registration is limited to 10 campers per week.
Ages 4.5-12. June 11-14, July 16-19, Aug. 13-16. $199 per week or $60 per day.
