The franchised coffee shop plans to use a two-lane drive-thru structure with no public access inside the building.
At its Sept. 27 meeting, the McKinney Planning and Zoning Board received a presentation about the proposed business. The commissioners voted 6-1 to approve a specific-use permit to allow for a restaurant with a drive-thru on the property, with Commissioner Charles Wattley voting against. The City Council will consider the request for the specific-use permit at its Oct. 3 meeting.
Seven Brew serves a variety of customizable coffee, tea, energy drinks, sodas, smoothies and shakes, according to its website.
Seven Brew has 21 locations in five states, according to the permit application documents. The company opened its first Texas location in Longview in February. The proposed McKinney coffee shop would be Seven Brew’s second Texas location. Three other locations are in the works in Grand Prairie, Waxahachie and Mansfield before the end of the year, said Brandon Layman, a development advisor for Seven Brew Coffee, at the meeting.
