Crews continue work on Mercedes-Benz of McKinney, a 75,000-square-foot, $32 million project that is set to open in late summer.
Crews have already cleared and leveled the land, constructed steel framework and the building is beginning to take shape, said Martin Walsh, vice president of facilities development for Sonic Automotive.
“All the foundations are complete, and we are going vertical with all of the steelwork underway,” he said. “We are well on our way to our late summer opening.”
Walsh said Sonic Automotive worked with the city during planning and design stages to ensure the orientation of the building and design of the service area fit in with the aesthetics of the dealership.
“We worked really hard on the aesthetics to make it look unlike a traditional auto shop, so it will be very iconic,” he said. “There is a lot of technology and utilities that goes into the shop, so we wanted it to be beautiful and functional.”
The dealership will bring with it more than 120 new jobs and 1,600 new vehicles.
Sonic Automotive will also roll out a new approach to car buying with technology built into the dealership intended to make the car-buying process seamless for shoppers.
