McKinney’s population is sitting at a little over 195,340 residents as of early 2020, according to the city’s most recent estimates.

This is a 4% increase from last January, when the city’s population was estimated at about 187,802. It also represents about a 49% increase over the last decade; the population was 131,117 in 2010.

These numbers come from the city’s Planning Department, which recently completed its annual population estimates for Jan. 1., 2020.

This year, the city of McKinney is also expecting to cross another major threshold: surpassing 200,000 residents, as McKinney City Manager Paul Grimes said in a previous article.

With a growing city comes the need for new streets and developments, he said.
