McKinney's 10th annual Oktoberfest takes place in downtown McKinney this weekend, Sept. 22-24. The family-friendly festival is presented by the city of McKinney and McKinney Main Street.

Whether attendees are looking for authentic German food and drinks, live music or children's activities, including a petting zoo, rock climbing wall and face painting, this three-day festival has it all.

Here is a rundown of what to expect at Oktoberfest.


Saturday's Oktoberfest activities kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 11 p.m. Activities include a carnival, Marktplatz and Kinder Korner from 10 a.m.-11 p.m., strolling accordion musicians from 2-7:30 p.m. and a large chicken dance at 8:30 p.m.

A wiener dog race will take place from noon-5 p.m. with a giant beer pong game taking place from 6-10 p.m. These activities will be held at the Gemuetlichkeit Games located on Louisiana Street between Tennessee and Johnson streets.

There will also be three stages hosting crafts, live music, a stein holding competition, dance lessons and live entertainment.


Sunday's event runs from noon to 5 p.m. and also includes a carnival, Marktplatz and Kinder Korner from noon to 5 p.m. and strolling accordion musicians from 1-3:30 p.m.

The Gemuetlichkeit Games Sunday include beer barrel races from noon to 3 p.m. and giant beer pong from 3 to 4 p.m.

The three stages will have live music, entertainment and the Tupps Brewery brat-eating contest. The contest takes place on the Bavarian Experience Stage located on Louisiana Street between Wood and Kentucky streets.
