The city of McKinney announced it will spray for mosquitoes on the west side of the city beginning 10 p.m. July 27.

The decision to treat this area comes after local mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to a city news release.

The spray area is between Custer Road and Ridge Road with a northern border of Coronado Drive and a southern border of Collin McKinney Parkway.

Residents in the area can expect to see signs posted at major intersections. More information and a map of the spray area are available on the city’s website. City officials advise residents in the area to stay indoors and bring pets inside during the spray period, according to the release.

Residents who don’t want spray near their home should contact the McKinney Health Compliance Department at 972-547-7447.

City staff also recently sprayed an area in east McKinney for mosquitoes following positive identification of West Nile virus in a mosquito test pool, according to a June news release.
