Construction for a new $11 million elevated water storage tank in west McKinney is set to begin this fall, according to Capital Improvement Program Manager Blake Sills.

The project, which began design in February 2022, will include a new elevated water storage tank located at the southwest corner of Stacy Road and Watters Branch Drive. The tank will have a capacity of 2 million gallons and a maximum height of 217 feet, Sills said.

The addition of the storage tank is recommended in the city’s Water Distribution System Master Plan to meet growing water demand in the area, Sills said. Construction of the storage tank is expected to be completed in late 2025.

Increased local demand for water also spurred the addition of a new pump station in McKinney, which is expected to also be completed in 2025.
