On Saturday, Aug. 18, the McKinney Fire Department responded to seven lightning-related fire calls during the thunderstorm that passed over Collin County that night.

Four of the seven fires were structure fires, one of which destroyed a home in the 2900 block of Sunset Ridge, but the family and its pets made it out safely, according to a McKinney Fire Department news release.

“This is why it is so important to get out quickly when you hear that smoke alarm go off,” Fire Marshal Mike Smith said in the release.
