A meeting to discuss potential options for bringing public transit to the McKinney Urbanized Area will take place at 4 p.m. Feb. 28 at the John & Judy Gay Library, 6861 Eldorado Parkway. The McKinney Urban Transit District board includes all members of the McKinney City Council and a representative from Celina, Lowry Crossing, Melissa and Princeton.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Denton County Transportation Authority will make presentations regarding what potential services are available and the funding required. The North Central Texas Council of Governments will make a presentation about available federal funding for the McKinney Urbanized Area.
An Urban Transit District must be formed to receive Texas Department of Transportation grant funding for transit operations. The City Council formed an Urban Transit District in McKinney by Resolution in June 2016.
Bylaws are being prepared for approval by the Urban Transit District board that include stipulations that all board meetings are subject to the Open Meetings Act.
